Tecvac, Inc.'s Metered Saturation Soaktm Used To Treat Over Four Million Square Feet of ASR Affected Concrete
Alkali Silica Reactive Concrete Has Been Treated With Lithium Nitrate Solution Using TECVAC, Inc.’s Metered Saturation Soaktm At Ft. Campbell Army Airfield.
Ft. Campbell, KY ¾ The Metered Saturation Soaktm is a specialty application technique developed by Washington, DC based TECVAC, Inc. to methodically and efficiently apply liquids to mass areas in precise quantities. Using a 7,500 gallon tanker truck, the computerized system coordinates the spray nozzles out-flow with the speed of the vehicle to meter exact quantity applications. In this instance, the method was used to apply lithium nitrate solution to almost 100 acres of alkali silica reactive concrete. ASR, as it is known, is a condition where the stone in the concrete matrix reacts with alkali in the cement to form a moisture absorbing and expansive gel around the stone. Until recently, there has been no promise of remission. The expansive activity would continue as long as there was moisture available to feed the reaction. However, FMC Corporation has developed and patented a lithium nitrate solution that has demonstrated its ability to chemically mitigate ASR in new concrete and existing structures. When coupled with Tecvac Inc.'s proprietary processes, FMC's Renewtm Concrete Treatement promises new life to existing concrete affected by ASR.
